Ambulatory Surgery Instructions

For Adults

NOTE: It is important that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment so that your case can start on time. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your appointment. Please note the procedure time may be moved up or back based on other cases scheduled that day.

NO UBER OR TAXI

Please have appropriate transportation; Uber and taxis are not allowed.

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT PRIOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

Eating or drinking before your appointment can be fatal. (No water, nothing except prescribed medication with a minimal amount of water.)

WEAR LOOSE FITTING CLOTHES

Monitoring devices need to be attached easily. Preferably a short-sleeved shirt. No tank tops or hooded sweatshirts, please.

WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES

Do not wear high heels, heavy boots, sandals, flip-flops or other slip on shoes. This is for your safety after anesthesia.

NO NAIL POLISH

During surgery, a probe is placed on your finger to monitor oxygen levels, nail polish or acrylic nails can interfere with this.

NO JEWELRY

Do not wear any jewelry above the neck, including all eyebrow, lip and nose piercings, earrings and tongue studs. Please remove prior to your appointment.

NO CONTACT LENSES

Do not wear contact lenses including extended wear contact lenses. Bring eyeglasses for use following surgery.

A RESPONSIBLE ADULT MUST ACCOMPANY YOU 

They must remain in the office and drive you home. This person must be available to monitor you for 8 hours after the procedure.

SINCE YOUR RESPONSIBLE ADULT MUST BE ABLE TO ASSIST YOU, DO NOT BRING ANY SMALL CHILDREN TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.

A cancellation of a scheduled surgery appointment less than 72 hours notice will incur a cost of $100

 

For Kids

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING 8 HOURS BEFORE ARRIVAL TIME
This includes no water, gum, hard candies, etc. Prescribed medication may be taken with a minimal amount of water. Failure to follow these instructions can be life threatening. Your child’s procedure may be delayed or canceled entirely if these instructions are not followed.

CHANGES IN HEALTH STATUS
Please notify our office if there are any changes in your child’s health and/or medical conditions. Fever, ear infections, nasal and/or chest congestion, etc. may put your child at an increased risk for complications. Should your child become ill just prior to the scheduled OR date, please contact the office to see if it is necessary to postpone the procedure.

A RESPONSIBLE ADULT MUST ACCOMPANY THE PATIENT
They must remain in the office and drive your child home. This person must be available to monitor the child for 8 hours after the procedure. Patients under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The legal guardian must show proof of legal guardianship. A stepparent that is not a legal guardian may not sign a consent for treatment.

SINCE YOUR RESPONSIBLE ADULT MUST BE ABLE TO ASSIST THE PATIENT, DO NOT BRING ADDITIONAL SMALL CHILDREN TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.
